Blog post: RFIDs producing a hive of information!

Tuesday, March 31, 2015 - 12:54

Last week the BBC reported on a new, miniature, longer-range RFID system designed to monitor bee behaviour at Kew Gardens in London. The trial has been created from off-the-shelf components consisting of standard RFID chip and a customised [albeit a slightly cumbersome-looking] aerial, which is supposedly thinner and lighter than other models used to track small insects and which delivers a greater read range. Readers are then dotted around the gardens and connected to credit-card sized, single board, Raspberry Pi computers, which log the readings. Continue reading “RFIDs producing a hive of information” »

Media release: Relegen expands assetDNA ID solutions with UHF RFID labels suitable for IT asset management applications

Tuesday, February 24, 2015 - 14:13

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 24 February, 2015 – Relegen, a leading supplier of people and technology solutions to Defence, government, mining and industry, today announced new capabilities for new slimline UHF RFID labels which are ideal for IT asset inventory management, tracking and maintenance applications. Relegen sources and supplies a wide range of asset tagging and identification systems [assetDNA IDs] such as barcodes, HF & UHF RFIDs, covert security identifiers, as well as offering its own patented multi-layered solution. And now, Relegen can offer next-generation EPC Class 1 Gen2 passive UHF RFID labels for users of its asset intelligence software technology, assetDNA.

As UHF RFID technology continues to fall in price and improve in performance, it is increasingly replacing traditional barcode systems in a wide variety of asset tracking applications. Whilst UHF RFID systems still tend to cost more however, because of their speed/range capabilities they can deliver significant time and labour savings which can, over time, offset the initial implementation cost. In the case of IT asset management, UHF RFID can improve the visibility and utilisation of IT assets; maximise depreciation deductions; reduce the costs associated with missing or lost items; remove manual labour associated with IT audits and stocktakes; help protect sensitive data and meet growing compliance requirements.

Media release: Relegen announces wider-availability of new enterprise risk intelligence software product – riskDNA

Wednesday, February 18, 2015 - 11:06

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 18 FEBRUARY, 2015 – Relegen, a leading supplier of people and technology to Defence and asset-intensive industries, has officially announced the wider-availability of riskDNA, a new software product which forms a part of its enterprise intelligence technology tool suite.  riskDNA is the first enterprise risk management software to be built around the best-practice control-centred risk intelligence [C2RI] methodology. Whilst riskDNA is being officially announced to the market now, the software has been adopted and used by Orica Limited, the world leader in the manufacture of explosives and industrial chemicals to the mining, construction and infrastructure industries, for over 12 months.

With today’s organisations facing growing regulatory compliance, variability in market conditions, and the need to manage new risks, traditional risk tools and processes are no longer satisfactory.  Conventional solutions such as risk registers and matrices do not provide the granularity necessary to make better, more informed decisions about risk. Furthermore, organisations need to move away from costly consultant-run programs and towards a model of self-sufficiency so they can lower risk program administration costs whilst improving corporate risk knowledge and gaining greater insights into their business.

riskDNA overcomes these challenges. It enables organisations to create a single point of truth for all of their risk data and gain a holistic view of all enterprise risk. It is a highly flexible tool which organisations can use to manage any business risk – safety, environmental, security, community, reputation, hazards and incidents, operational, even financial and strategic risks. In particular, riskDNA and the C2RI methodology enables organisations to easily capture data, model critical controls and correlate risk intelligence across the enterprise so they can better prioritise resources and address those issues that will return the best risk improvement.
